How to Play
Basic Rules
- Objective: Checkmate your opponent's king
- Turns: White moves first, then players alternate
- Moving: Click a piece to select it, then click a valid square to move
- Capturing: Move your piece to a square occupied by an opponent's piece
Piece Movement
- ♟ Pawn: Moves forward one square (two on first move), captures diagonally
- ♜ Rook: Moves any number of squares horizontally or vertically
- ♞ Knight: Moves in an L-shape (2 squares + 1 square perpendicular)
- ♝ Bishop: Moves any number of squares diagonally
- ♛ Queen: Moves any number of squares in any direction
- ♚ King: Moves one square in any direction
Special Moves
- Castling: King moves two squares toward a rook, rook moves to the other side (conditions apply)
- En Passant: Special pawn capture (implemented in advanced rules)
- Promotion: Pawn reaching the opposite end becomes a queen automatically
Game Status
- Check: King is under attack (must be resolved)
- Checkmate: King is in check with no legal moves (game over)
- Stalemate: No legal moves available but not in check (draw)
